Lecturers’ internships at Tallinn University

From April 21 to 27, 2019, Head of the Department of Human Geography and Regional Studies, D.Sc. in Geography, prof. Liudmyla Niemets and Assistant Professor of the Department of Human Geography and Regional Studies, D.Sc. in Geography, Associate Professor. Kateryna Sehida participated in the Erasmus + Academic Mobility Program at Tallinn University (Tallinn, Estonia).

Lecturers of the department:

- met with expert of the Estonian Parliament on Ukrainian issues Mark Mikhelson, discussed opportunities for supporting the development of Ukrainian-Estonian cooperation in the field of education and science;

- met with the rector of Tallinn University prof. Tiit Land, discussed directions of the further inter-institutional cooperation;

- held a meeting with the staff of the School of Natural Sciences and Health at Tallinn University, discussed possibilities for further exchanges within Erasmus + program, organization of joint student practices, etc.;

- held a meeting with staff of the Department of Urban Studies of Tallinn University, Ph.D in Geography, professor of Environmental Management Helen Sovaly-Spelling and Ph.D in Geography, Environmental Sociology Researcher Bianca Pliuszke-Altoff, discussed opportunities for participation in joint scientific events within the framework of the international research project " Ukrainian geopolitical fault-line cities: urban identities, geopolitics and urban policy", directions of joint research, opportunities for developing cooperation, etc.;

- held lectures for the first and second-year students studied at the recreational management program, in particular

  • Ukraine: tourism and recreational resources, protected area system and recreation development,
  • The role of human geography in studies of spatial planning, recreational management and travel-business,
  • Eco and rural tourism in Ukraine: peculiarities and trends of development,
  • Ukrainian spatial model, regional development, planning system and regulations. Post-industrial transformation of urban space (study of the city of Kharkiv, Ukraine);

- conducted several workshops on the experience exchange in educational and scientific activities in the field of human geography in general, geography of recreation and tourism in particular.

Currently, two graduate students of the Department of Human Geography and Regional Studies of V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, Anastasiia Kuznetsova and Olha Popovych, study at Tallinn University. During the autumn semester 2019-2020 academic year student of the School of Natural Sciences and Health of Tallinn University will study at the Department of Human Geography and Regional Studies of V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University.

Next week, from May 5 till May 11, Dr. Mart Reimann, Associate Professor of Recreational Management will take internship at the Department of Human Geography and Regional Studies within the framework of the academic mobility program Erasmus +.

We hope that the lecturers’ internship will promote fruitful further cooperation.
