Liudmyla Niemets – Doctor of Geographical Sciences,Professor, Head of the Department of Human Geography and Regional Studies, Faculty of Geology, Geography, Recreation and Tourism, V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, the Excellent Teacher of Ukraine, Honored Professor of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University.
She was born on May 20, 1948 in Dyvychky village of Kyiv region. She graduated from the Faculty of Geology and Geography of O.M. Gorky Kharkiv State University in 1974. In 2004 she defended the doctoral thesis on "Socio-geographical basis for the strategy of Ukraine's transition to a model of sustainable development". Since 2006 - she has been head of the Department of Human Geography and Regional Studies. In 2008, she awarded the diploma of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine "For Merits to Ukrainian people" for significant contribution to the development of national science and education, training highly qualified scientific and pedagogical staff and professionalism. In 2015 she was awarded the Order of Princess Olga, III degree for significant contribution to socio-economic, scientific-technical, cultural and educational development of Ukraine, significant professional achievements and dedication to Ukrainian people.

Research interests: theory and methodology of geographical research, sustainable development and global challenges, methodology of social geography, territorial planning and regional management, tourism and recreation resources of Ukraine.
