Professor of the department Liudmyla Niemets was awarded the title "Honored Professor of V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University" for high achievements in work in 2018

In 2018, D.Sc. in Geography, Associate Professor of the Department Kateryna Sehida received a scholarship of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine for young scientists.

In 2018, Associate Professor of the department Kateryna Sehida received a scholarship from the Kharkiv Regional State Administration in the field of science in 2018 in the category "Humanities" and was awarded a V.N. Karazin scholarship for gifted young scientists.

During the reporting period, the department received the 3rd place in the competition of departments of V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University for the best scientific and methodological support of the educational process in the direction "Promotion of scientific work of students".

Students of group GC-42 under supervision of the curator Associate Professor Ievgeniia Telebienieva became the winners of the competition for the best student group on the results of 2017/2018 academic year among faculties of natural and mathematical profile.

The winner of the Regional competition of student scientific works on natural sciences (student of the 1st year of magistracy V. Perepelytsya – III place) was prepared under the direction of Associate Professor Kateryna Sehida.

In 2017-2018 academic year the applications have been approved for student and teacher mobility between universities under Erasmus + programs (with the University of Oradea (Romania) and the University of Girona (Spain) for the program periods 2017-2019).

PhD student of the department Anastasiia Mazurova conducted a part of the PhD thesis study on the topic "Territorial and spatial organization of a large city (case study of Kharkiv and Katowice)" at the Department of Economic Geography of the Faculty of Earth Sciences at the University of Silesia in Katowice from 11.09.2017 to 31.01.2018 with the support of the Visegrad Fund.

During the first semester of 2017-2018 academic year, a 6th year-student Oksana Puzhaichereda was trained at the University of Girona, while the 5th year students of the department Olha Niemets, Hlib Ovcharenko, Serhii Chekhov, Julia Schukina were trained at the University of Oradea in the 2nd semester of the 2017-2018 academic year under Erasmus + program.

Professor of the Department of Geography of the University of Girona, Josep Vila Subiros visited the department for the purpose of lecturing, exchange of experience in scientific and educational activities on September 18-23, 2017.

The reception of the delegation of Tallinn University (Tallinn, Estonia) was organized at the university at the initiative of the Department of Socio-Economic Geography and Regional Studies on January 10-12, 2018. The delegation consisted of: prof. Tiit Land, Rector of Tallinn University, Mart Reimann, Associate Professor of Recreational Management of the School of Natural Sciences and Health, Kätlin Keinast, Senior Specialist in International Cooperation. The agreement on cooperation between V.N Karazin Kharkiv National University and Tallinn University was signed. Possibilities of joint participation of the two universities in the programs of academic mobility Erasmus + and implementation of research projects in the field of human geography that could be financed by the Estonian Development Cooperation Fund were discussed.

On March 14-22, 2018, lecturers of the department, Kateryna Sehida and Ievgeniia Telebienieva were trained at the University of Oradea under Erasmus + program.

On April 23-28, 2018, Associate professor of the Department, Kateryna Sehida passed a teaching internship at the Department of Geography of the University of Girona (Spain) under the Erasmus + Staff mobility for teaching program.
