Lecturers and PhD students of the department took part in the “International Summer School in Mass Displacement: Focus on IDPs in Post-Soviet Countries”

From August 5 to 16, 2019, the International Summer School in Mass Displacement: Focus on IDPs in Post-Soviet Countries was held at the Karazin University (link to the school http://go-east.karazin.ua/). The school was attended by fellows of the DAAD grant program, students of German higher education institutions, students and PhD students of Karazin University, in particular PhD students of the Department of Human Geography and Regional Studies Marina Lohvinova and Olga Suptelo.

Lecturers at the summer school were experts in various fields, including assistant professor of the department of sociology of the Kirikkale University (Turkey) Chatay Sharp, assistant professor of the Faculty of International Economic Relations and Travel Business Valery Reznikov, assistant professor of the Department of Applied Sociology and Social Communication of the Faculty of Sociology Maxim Folomeev, assistant professor of the Department of Human Geography and Regional Studies of the Faculty of Geology, Geography, Recreation and Tourism Kateryna Sehida and other specialists.

The International Summer School program provided training in the following areas: general information on the current situation, socio-economic and socio-psychological aspects of displacement, its humanities, new patterns and scenarios for migration. The uniqueness of the summer school Mass Displacement: Focus on IDPs in Post-Soviet Countries was its focus on internally displaced persons in Ukraine and post-Soviet countries, as well as study visits to IDP camps, charities and community organizations dealing with migrants in Kharkiv region.
