Regular workshop on the project “Ukrainian geopolitical fault-cities: urban identities, geopolitics and urban policy” was held

The regular scientific workshop within the framework of the international research project "Ukrainian geopolitical fault-lines cities: urban identities, geopolitics and urban policy" was held in Odessa on April 4-5, 2019. It was attended by project participants from the Department of Human Geography and Regional Studies of the V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University (D.Sc. in Geography, Professor L. Niemets, PhD students O. Suptelo, M. Logvinova), Department of Human Geography of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv (D.Sc. in Geography, Professor K.V. Mezentsev, PhD in Geography O.O. Denisenko, PhD student O. Gavrilyuk), Department of Human Geography and Tourism of I.I. Mechnikov Odessa National University (D.Sc. in Geography, Professor V.V. Yavorskaya, PhD student E. Sipakin) and the sector of the territorial organization of society of the Institute of Geography of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (D.Sc. in Geography, Professor G.P. Pidgrushny, PhD student L. Sikorska), as well as Department of Human Geography of Kherson State University (PhD student A. Napadovskaya).

Professors Kostiantyn Mezentsev and Grigory Pidgrushny gave a public lecture on "Urban Identity, Geopolitics and Urban Policy". The lectures and discussions were attended by teachers of the V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University D.Sc. in Geography, Assoc. Prof. K. Segida, PhD in Geography, Assoc. Prof. L. Kliuchko, PhD in Geography Assistant Professor E. Telebieineva

The participants of the workshop discussed the course of scientific research, peculiarities of the research methodology, problems and prospects of conducting the field stage of research, took part in the terminological discussion and discussions on the review of the national literature on the subject of the project.

From Washington, the project manager joined the skype discussion – professor of the University of Oslo, Michael Gentile, who was at the congress of the Association of American Geographers.

PhD students (O. Gavrilyuk, L. Sikorska, M. Logvinova, O. Suptelo, E. Sipatkin) received the task of preparing materials for participation in CAT-ference 2019 (Serbia, Belgrade, September 2019).

The next meeting of the project is scheduled for the beginning of June at V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, where an international doctoral school will take place on the subject of the project.
