Lecturer’s training at the University of Girona under the Erasmus+ program

From 11 to 18 July 2021, Assistant Professors of the Department of Human Geography and Regional Studies, D.Sc. in Geography, Associate Professor Kateryna SEGIDA and PhD in Geography Ievgeniia TELEBIENIEVA took part in the Erasmus + academic mobility program at the University of Girona (Girona, Spain). The curator of the lecturers' visit at the university was dr. Josep VILLA SUBIROS.

During the visit, lecturers took part in working meetings with the staff of the Department of Geography, University of Girona, in particular with head of the department dr. Joan VICENTE RUFI, researchers and lecturers. They discussed the peculiarities of the Department of Geography, areas of research and educational activities given the specifics of the inclusion of geography in the humanities and socio-economic sciences, exchanged experience in organizing the educational process using distance learning technologies, discussed areas of cooperation between departments in science and education, in particular prospects for cooperation under the Erasmus + program, participation in joint research projects, writing joint articles in scientific publications indexed by scientometric databases Scopus, Web of Science, etc.

A joint working meeting was held with representatives of the Faculty of Tourism and the Faculty of Natural Sciences, as well as participants in the Erasmus + academic mobility program from around the world, who are currently undergoing internships at the University of Girona; lecturers hold a presentation of V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University for Erasmus+ participants, students and staff of the University of Girona. They participated in joint work on the research project "Beach4all" led by Dani BLASCO with a visit to the region of Kalonga, beaches marked with a green flag and equipped for comfortable recreation of people with disabilities; took part in a meeting with the tourism department of the region where discussed positive practices and opportunities for the development of the tourism sector.

Lecturers participated in a joint working meeting with representatives of the international office, in particular its head Raquel SOLA, discussed possibilities of further cooperation and preparation of a joint application for the next programming period, identified positive practices of cooperation.

The training included a study of the spatial organization of the region, features of natural resources, economic and tourist-recreational potential of Catalonia, history of settlement and economic development of the city of Girona, current demographic and socio-economic situation, development of tourist and recreational activities in Catalonia, etc. The lecturers visited the cities of Lloret de Mare, Tossa de Mare, La Escala, Figares, Barcelona, studied modern transformations of the spatial organization of the city of Girona, positive practices in the development of recreational infrastructure and transformations of public spaces, visited a large number of outstanding tourist sites.

Lecturers express their sincere gratitude to dr. Josep VILA SUBIROS for many years of cooperation, warm welcome and fruitful experience exchange during the training under the Erasmus + program, we hope that the lecturers’ internship will contribute to fruitful further cooperation.
