Internship of the faculty representatives at Tallinn University under the Erasmus+ program

From May 17 to June 1, 2026, the Dean of the Faculty of Geology, Geography, Recreation and Tourism, Associate Professor of the K. Niemets Department of Human Geography and Regional Studies Kateryna KRAVCHENKO and Associate Professor of the Department Liudmyla KLIUCHKO took part in the Erasmus+ academic mobility program at Tallinn University, Estonia. The host party was the School of Humanities of Tallinn University.

The purpose of the internship was to improve their skills, develop international academic cooperation, familiarize themselves with modern European approaches to the organization of the educational and scientific process, as well as to expand opportunities for joint scientific, educational and project activities between V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University and Tallinn University.

During the mobility, the participants of the mobility presented the educational, scientific and international activities of Karazin University, the Faculty of Geology, Geography, Recreation and Tourism and the K. Niemets Department of Human Geography and Regional Studies. During the presentation, they outlined the main areas of training for students, the scientific interests of the department, experience in participating in international projects and potential areas of further cooperation between universities.

During the internship, special attention was paid to scientific discussions and academic meetings with representatives of the School of Humanities of Tallinn University. In particular, a meeting was held with Professor of Human Geography, Head of the Center for Cultural Landscapes and Head of the Department Hannes Palang. During the meeting the possibility of preparing joint scientific publications on the topic of the transformation of cultural landscapes of Ukraine in war conditions was discussed.

Working meetings were also held with the researcher of the School of Humanities Mart Reimann, Associate Professor Raili Nugin and Associate Professor in Anthropology Maarja Kaaristo. During the meetings, the colleagues discussed the prospects of joint research, international grant initiatives, preparation of publications in European scientific journals, as well as the development of cooperation in the areas of urban planning, recreational geography, rural tourism, cultural landscapes, anthropological, demographic and migration studies.

A separate area of ​​the internship was familiarization with the demographic features of the development of Estonian settlements, the migration situation, the integration of Ukrainian refugees into Estonian society and the broader context of socio-demographic processes. The participants of the mobility also conducted an expeditionary study of the recreational areas of the city of Tallinn together with the master's student of the department Anastasiia SAVCHENKO, who is studying under the Erasmus+ program at Tallinn University this semester.

An important result of the internship was the deepening of professional contacts with representatives of Tallinn University, the identification of promising areas of joint research, publications and grant initiatives, as well as the discussion of opportunities for further academic mobility of students and lecturers.
