Internship for lecturers at Tallinn University

From 12 to 22 June 2021, Assistant Professors of the Department of Human Geography and Regional Studies, PhD in Geography Kateryna KRAVCHENKO and Liudmyla KLIUCHKO took part in the Erasmus + academic mobility program at Tallinn University (Tallinn, Estonia).

During the internship at Tallinn University, lecturers presented V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University and the Department of Human Geography and Regional Studies for Erasmus + program participants, students and staff of Tallinn University, discussed the prospects and opportunities for further cooperation at the scientific and educational levels between both universities.

The lecturers took part in meetings with Anton PRATKUNAS, a consultant on entrepreneurship at the Center for Entrepreneurship Support of the city of Narva, the administration of the city of Yofi – development advisor Rein LUUSE, Deputy Elder Toomas Nael; Director of Narva College, University of Tartu Marek SAMMUL. During the meetings, they discussed the features of the brownfields use implementation in public practice, urgent problems of regional development of the old industrial region of Ida-Virumaa and its transition to "green energy", as well as the possibilities of further cooperation of the Department of Human Geography and Regional Studies of Karazin University with these organizations.

They took part in the work of the Ida-Viru Development Conference 2021 "Waiting for a Fair Transition", held at the Alutaguse Recreation and Sports Center. The conference was dedicated to the Strategy for the Development of the Region until 2026. Among the speakers of the conference were: Head of the European Commission Delegation in Estonia Keith KAZEMETS, Mayor of Narva Katri RAIT, Senior Consultant at the Ida-Virumaa Business Center Lauri YALONEN, Head of the Industrial Development Department of Ida-Virumaa Tit KUUSMIK, Director of the TalTach Virumaa College Mare RUZILEHT, Virumaa Tourism Coordinator Kadri YALONEN, General Director of the Concert Hall Yofi Pia TAMM and others.

Mart Reiman (Associate Professor of Recreational Management, School of Natural Sciences and Health, Tallinn University) organized a number of  working meetings. During the expedition to Lahemaa National Park, located on the coast of the Finland Gulf, lecturers were investigating natural landscapes, the peculiarities of the organization and development of recreational activities and rural tourism, etc. In addition, the sides discussed areas of further cooperation, topics of joint publications in European journals indexed by scientometric databases, as well as the prospects for the submission next joint grant applications.

We hope that the lectuers’ training will contribute to fruitful further cooperation.
