On February 6-7, a regular workshop on the project "Ukrainian geopolitical fault-cities: urban identities, geopolitics and urban policy" which was held on the basis of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. The project is implemented by the University of Oslo (Norway), Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, I.I. Mechnikov Odessa National University, Institute of Geography of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. The project team discussed results of the previous work stage, in particular field research (the city of Mariupol) in November 2018. Within the framework of the workshop, lectures and discussions were held on the problems, approaches and methods of modern human-geographical and urban studies. Professor M. Gentile (Oslo, Norway) also held an open lecture on "Geopolitical Fault-line Cities" which sparked lively discussion
On February 6, Professor M. Gentile (Oslo, Norway) conducted online communication with the PhD students’ supervisors who took part in the project (Prof. K. Mezentsev (Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv), Prof. G.P. Pidhrushnyi (Institute of Geography of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine), L.M. Niemets (V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University), V. Yavorska (I.I. Mechnikov Odessa National University).
PhD students (O. Havryliuk, L. Sikorska, M. Lohvynova, O. Suptelo, Ye. Sipatkiv) received specific tasks related to the conducting research, articles preparation and work on PhD theses.
The next meeting will be held on April 4-6, 2019, based on I.I. Mechnikov Odessa National University.
