On February 27, 2026, the second webinar was held on the topic: “The Nature Restoration Law in practice: Roles, responsibilities and expectations in the Finnish forest sector”.
The webinar was held as part of the project “Nature Restoration – challenges and opportunities for future landscape specialists” (FutureLand) under the Erasmus+ Cooperation Partnerships for Higher Education (KA220-HED) program. The participants of the project are the University of East Finland (Finland), Universitat de Girona (Spain), Université luav di Venezia (Italy), the Regional Council of North Karelia (Regional Council of North Karelia, Finland), the Provincial Council of Girona (Diputacio de Girona, Spain), Ente Parco Regionale Veneto Delta del Po (Italy) and V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University. The K. Niemetes Department of Human Geography and Regional Studies of the Faculty of Geology, Geography, Recreation and Tourism is the executor of the grant project from V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University.
More than 130 students, PhD students, and scientists, representatives of different enterprises, organizations from 9 countries of the world took part in the webinar.
During the webinar Outi Ala-Honkola, Senior Specialist of the Ministry of the Environment, Santtu Kareksela, Restoration and Nature Management Service Owner, Metsähallitus, Parks & Wildlife Finland, Ninni Saarinen, Nature Conservation Specialist & LUMO Programme Coordinator, Economic Development Centre revealed the implementation of the EU Regulation on nature restoration in Finland and Rauli Perkiö, Nature Management Specialist, forest company Tomator, Essi Arminen, Junior Specialist at Akordi, Anna Laine-Petäjäkangas, Assistant Professor of Restoration ecology, University of Eastern Finland, and Sari Koivula Forest and Climate Expert, Regional Council of North Carelia described the practical aspects of forest and peatland restoration in Finland.
