On March 14, 2025, Josep VILA SUBIROS, a visiting professor at the V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, PhD in Geography, Professor of the Department of Geography of the University of Girona (Girona (Spain)) held the second lecture on the topic: "The Anthropocentrism and the planetary boundaries: interdisciplinary vision" at K. Niemets Department of Human Geography and Regional Studies, Faculty of Geology, Geography of Recreation and Tourism. The lecture was held as part of a series of lectures on the optional course "Paradigms of social and geographical systems" (outside the curriculum).
Almost 40 students, PhD students and lecturers of the department and the faculty took part in the lecture. In his lecture, Professor Josep VILA SUBIROS described the levels of anthropocentrism, highlighted the issues of war and peace, the struggle for natural resources, analyzed the volume of defense expenditures of countries around the world, forecasts of population, industrial development, resource volumes, food production. Also the professor told the audience about the concept of planetary boundaries, the crossing of which poses risks to global ecological stability, and reviewed publications and books on the issues of interaction between society and nature.
The lecture aroused interest among those present and a lively discussion.
