The first webinar on the FutureLand project was held

On January 30, 2026, the first webinar was held on the topic: “The Nature Restoration Regulation: Scientific Foundations, Policy Framework and Implementation Challenges”.

The webinar was held as part of the project “Nature Restoration – challenges and opportunities for future landscape specialists” (FutureLand) under the Erasmus+ Cooperation Partnerships for Higher Education (KA220-HED) program. The participants of the project are the University of East Finland (Finland), Universitat de Girona (Spain), Université luav di Venezia (Italy), the Regional Council of North Karelia (Regional Council of North Karelia, Finland), the Provincial Council of Girona (Diputacio de Girona, Spain), Ente Parco Regionale Veneto Delta del Po (Italy) and V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University. The K. Niemetes Department of Human Geography and Regional Studies of the Faculty of Geology, Geography, Recreation and Tourism is the executor of the grant project from V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University.

More than 70 students, PhD students, and scientists, representatives of different enterprises, organizations from 9 countries of the world took part in the webinar.

During the webinar, Daniel HERING, Professor at the University of Duisburg-Essen, Angelika RUBIN, Representative of European Commission DG Environment – Nature Conservation (ENV.D.3), César LUENA, Member of the European Parliament Rapporteur on the Nature Restoration Regulation, presented the main provisions of the EU Nature Restoration Rgulation, while Boris ERG, Director of the European Regional Bureau of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and Jutta PAULUS, Member of the European Parliament (Greens/EFA) presented on the implementation of the Nature Restoration Rugulation, management issues and the role of higher education in supporting nature restoration in Europe. At the end of the webinar, there was an open Q&A session with the webinar speakers.

The next webinar will take place on 27 February 2026. More details will be announced later.
