Students and lecturers of the department took part in the Urban Hackathon in Poland

From September 15 to 20, students of the K. Niemets Department of Human Geography and Regional Studies, under the guidance of the lecturers of the department, took part in the Urban Hackathon on the revitalization of student space, which was held at the Faculty of Architecture of the Silesian University of Technology with the financial support of the International Visegrad Fund.

The co-organizers of the Urban Hackathon are the K. Niemets Department of Human Geography and Regional Studies of the V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, the Department of Urban and Regional Planning of the Silesian University of Technology, and the Department of Economic and Social Geography of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.

On the first day of the Urban Hackathon, the Dean of the Faculty of Architecture of the Silesian University of Technology, Professor Tomáš Bradecki, the Head of the Department of Economic and Social Geography of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Professor Kostyantyn Mezentsev, and the lecturers of the K. Niemets Department of Human Geography and Regional Studies, Professor Kateryna Segida, Associate Professor Kateryna Kravchenko, and Senior Lecturer Daria Venhryn gave students introductory lectures on university campus planning, urban revitalization, and neurourbanism. the Head of the Department of Urban and Regional Planning of the Silesian University of Technology, Alina Pancevych, and PhD student Dominika Vereshova moderated discussions.

Over the next 48 hours, students of the educational programs "Architecture and Urban Planning" (Silesian University of Technology), "Urbanism and Urban Planning" (Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv) and "Economic, Social Geography and Regional Development" (V.N. Karazin National University of Kyiv) will work in seven interdisciplinary teams to develop a revitalization plan for the war-damaged sports complex of the V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University.

The department's team is represented by students Olha Podpriatova, Viktoriia Stupak, Orest Dunikov, Anastasiia Prykhodko, Oksana Apanasenko, Oksana Moroz, and Maria Orlenko.

The combined teams demonstrated extremely high results and presented 7 creative ideas for the restoration of the Karazin Sports Complex. All participants and winners received memorable gifts.

The project "Urban Hackathon for the Revitalization of Student Campus Spaces" within the framework of the V4 Gen Mini-Grant grant program, funded by the Visegrad Fund, is not yet complete. The participants still have a number of meetings and the writing of a joint monograph!
