Extracurricular activities of students studying at the University of Ostrava under the Erasmus + program

Contemporary, nine students of the Department of Human Geography and Regional Studies study at the University of Ostrava (Czech Republic) under the academic mobility program Erasmus+ during the spring semester of 2021-2022 academic year. Eleven students of the department were selected to participate in this program, but, unfortunately, two of them didn’t manage to join their colleagues. But we are still waiting for them to join the rest as soon as the opportunity arises.

Yesterday we told you about the initial activities of students, today we will talk about extracurricular activities.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES. In addition to regular scheduled classes, students also attend Czech language courses in order to better integrate into society. Classes are held with native speakers. In addition to educational activities, students express their active public position and try to support our fellow citizens in the Czech Republic, help the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the department, preserving and increasing the knowledge which lecturers germinated in us all these years. Students volunteer: they help sort out humanitarian aid at the ADRA Volunteer Center, care for Ukrainian children in the children's corner at the Černá louka Ostrava Regional Aid Center in Ukraine, and at the Chaloupka Family and Community Center, the students went to meetings in support of Ukraine.

Students also took part in the NATION4NATION event. This event is traditionally held among foreign students studying under the Erasmus + program and this is an evening of acquaintance with a particular country. Students demonstrate traditions, culture, tell interesting facts, and treat everyone to national dishes. This year we also introduced foreign students to Ukraine, namely fed everyone borscht with donuts, dumplings and then held a "party" with divination. In simple words, they created a corner of Ukraine in the Czech Republic, which won everyone's heart. But we also heard a lot of warm words and support, because everyone could really imagine what was happening in Ukraine. Therefore, we can openly say that the whole world cares and supports us. We are glad that we were able to show everyone what Ukraine and Ukrainians are like, and we are very grateful to our university, faculty and especially the department for such an opportunity to study, gain new knowledge, travel and meet interesting people.
