On March 18, 2021 the Department of Human Geography and Regional Studies, Faculty of Geology, Geography, Recreation and Tourism, V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University together with the Department of Economic and Social Geography of the Faculty of Geography of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv hosted the first All-Ukrainian Workshop on Human Geography "Modern Global Challenges to Human Geography: Problems and Prospects".
The event was attended by more than 80 geographers from 20 regions of Ukraine. The workshop discussed current challenges to human geography, namely: the place and role of human geography in the system of sciences and geographical science, the avant-garde role of human geography in solving global today’s problems, civilizational challenges to human geography and their solutions, urbanization and global problems. cities from the standpoint of human geography.
It was decided to acquire the status of "permanent" seminar, also the establishment of the Association of Human Geographers of Ukraine was discussed, which is an important step towards providing an effective platform for communication, timely, joint and effective response to today's challenges, integration into the European and world geographical community.
An initiative group has been set up to summarize the proposals, develop a strategy for holding an All-Ukrainian seminar on human geography and launch the Association of Human Geographers of Ukraine.
