A workshop "University science and education: contemporary experience and a look into the future" was held at the Department of Human Geography and Regional Studies on April 20, 2023.
Head of the Department prof. Liudmyla NIEMETS in her introductory speech emphasized the relevance of the topic of the workshop in our difficult times. The science and education of Ukraine are faced with the pressing issues of preserving and further developing the intellectual potential of Ukraine, training specialists in accordance with the "Strategic goals and intentions of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University until 2030" and in terms of the EU's requirements for Ukraine to join the Alliance and the 17 sustainable development goals, the place and role of university science and education in this.
The Vice-Rectors of the University for Scientific and Pedagogical Work, Assoc. Prof. Anton PANTELEYMONOV and Prof. Boris SAMORODOV spoke with a welcome speech and support for the idea and topic of the workshop.
Thorough and interesting reports were given by prof. Kostyantyn MEZENTSEV, prof. Sergiy KOSTRIKOV, Assoc. Prof. Kateryna KRAVCHENKO, Assoc. Prof. Pavlo KOBYLIN.
Prof. Kostyantyn MEZENTSEV presented a report on the topic: "University science, education and artificial intelligence: modern challenges and opportunities", with which he started an interesting and lively discussion about the features of using ChatGPT artificial intelligence in educational and scientific activities, the advantages and disadvantages of its use.
Prof. Serhiy KOSTRIKOV, in a report on the topic: "The essence of neural networks and the prospects of their application in the subject field", revealed the issue of the essence of neural networks and the peculiarities of their application with the use of geoinformation technologies, remote sensing of the Earth.
Assoc. Prof. Pavlo KOBYLIN, in a report on the topic: "Application of neural networks in geography: from theory to practice", demonstrated the use of neural networks in the processing of statistical data in human-geographical research.
Assoc. Prof. Kateryna KRAVCHENKO, in the topic: "System-synergistic approach in the research of agglomeration processes", characterized the methodology of research of agglomeration processes on the example of the Kharkiv region in the aspect of the topic of the workshop.
More than 70 participants took part in the workshop, including scientists, students, PhD students from different regions of Ukraine.
The discussion on this important topic was continued by Assoc. Prof. Yurii KANDYBA within the Scientific and Practical Conference of Students, Phd students and Young Scientists "Region-2023: Human-Geographical Aspects".
