PhD student of the Department took part in the IV International School for Young Scientists in Urban Geopolitics

From October 9 to 12, 2022, the IV International School for Young Scientists in Urban Geopolitics was held in Lviv as a part of the international project "Ukrainian Cities on the Geopolitical Fault Line: Urban Identity, Geopolitics and Urban Policy". A PhD student of the Department of Human Geography and Regional Studies Daria Venhryn took part in this event. The general topic of the School concerned the urbanist view of the Russian war in Ukraine. Participants, speakers and guests of the school from Kyiv, Lviv, Kharkiv, Krakow, Oslo, Mariupol, Kryvyi Rih, Kherson, Chernivtsi, Ternopil, Lutsk discussed the problems of urbicide, the symbolism of urban space, geopolitical preferences of citizens, the role of socialist heritage in cities, and prospects of attracting results studies of Ukrainian cities to the global urban discourse. Dialogue and communication continued during the shelling of the city of Lviv and air raids in underground shelters. A scientific excursion was held as a part of the school, where the participants got acquainted with the spatial transformations of the Sikhiv microdistrict, visited a modular town for forced migrants and the project of construction of the temporary housing for displaced women "Unbreakable Mothers".
