Contemporary, nine students of the Department of Human Geography and Regional Studies study at the University of Ostrava (Czech Republic) under the academic mobility program Erasmus+ during the spring semester of 2021-2022 academic year. Eleven students of the department were selected to participate in this program, but, unfortunately, two of them didn’t manage to join their colleagues. But we are still waiting for them to join the rest as soon as the opportunity arises.
MORE ABOUT TRAINING. The program involves students of different full-time courses and different degrees: both bachelors and masters. Any subjects included in the list of those taught this semester were offered a choice. There were no restrictions, everyone can study only what they like. The students choosed the following courses to study in a foreign educational institution:
Lectures and practical classes, as well as actual communication with teachers and students are conducted exclusively in English. In addition to Czech students, the class also includes students from other countries - Spain, Portugal, France, Turkey, Kazakhstan and others.
The structure of classes is similar to the forms of the educational process at the Department of Human Geography and Regional Studies: there are lectures and workshops. The workshops consider the information which student should study at home before. Much attention is paid to group projects, communication between students, activities in the classroom. These teaching methods provide an opportunity to get acquainted with different students in the class, take responsibility for the work done and be able to defend their own project in front of the audience. The main factor of European education is to teach students to form and express their own opinions on any issue and its successful demonstration, which is identical to the methods of teaching at our department.
