Lecturers of the K.Niemts Department of Human Geography and Regional Studies of the V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University took part in the Erasmus+ academic mobility program at Akdeniz University (Turkey)

From June 10 to 14, 2025, lecturers of the K.Niemts Department of Human Geography and Regional Studies of the V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, namely Associate Professors Kateryna KRAVCHENKO and Liudmyla KLIUCHKO took part in the Erasmus+ academic mobility program at Akdeniz University (Antalya, Turkey). The host party was the Department of Geography of the Faculty of Literature and the International Department of the University.

As part of the visit, the participants held meetings with the teaching staff of the Department of Geography of Akdeniz University. They exchanged experiences with the Head of the Department Prof. Dr. Tuncer Demir, Deputy Heads Assist. Prof. Dr. Halil Hadimli and Assist. Prof. Dr. M. Tahsin Şahin, as well as other scientists, researchers and postgraduates. The discussions covered the topics of the organization of the educational process, approaches to teaching geographical disciplines, student participation in scientific activities, mechanisms of academic mobility and features of inter-university cooperation.

Special attention was paid to the prospects for expanding scientific partnership, in particular in the areas of sustainable development, urbanism, spatial planning and geoinformation technologies. As a result of the negotiations, an agreement was reached on the preparation of a new joint project application under the Erasmus+ program, which opens up wider opportunities for the implementation of international initiatives and further institutional cooperation.

As part of the visit, the lecturers presented the activities of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University under martial law, the work of the Faculty of Geology, Geography, Recreation and Tourism and the K. Niemets Department of Human Geography and Regional Studies. The presentation aroused interest among Turkish colleagues and became an impetus for deepening academic dialogue.

The lecturers had the opportunity to get acquainted with the campus of Akdeniz University, in particular with the infrastructure of the Department of Geography, student and teaching premises, which allowed them to better understand the peculiarities of the organization of the educational environment. During the official visit, a meeting was also held at the International Office of the University, where the coallegues discussed contemporary formats of partnership between higher education institutions of Ukraine and Turkey, support mechanisms and document flow within the Erasmus+ program.

The program of the stay also included a visit to the Antalya Municipality (Antalya Büyükşehir Belediyesi). The participants had the opportunity to get acquainted with the principles of local self-government, approaches to spatial planning and sustainable development practices in the region, which combines a high level of tourist activity with environmental challenges.

The cultural program included a professionally organized tour of the historical center of Antalya - the Kaleici district, known for its authentic architecture, monuments of the Ottoman era and antiquity. The tour was conducted by Prof. Dr. M. Tahsin ŞAHIN.

The K. Niemets Department of Human Geography and Regional Studies expresses sincere gratitude for the high level of organization, warm welcome, constant support and guidance during the stay at Akdeniz University to Associate Department Head Assist.
