On October 17, 2019 the workshop "Human-geographical Plane of Urban Transformation: Investigation of Gentrification and Renovation Objects in Modern Kharkiv" was held at the Department of Human Geography and Regional Studies within the framework of the International Scientific and Practical Conference "Region-2019: Optimal Development Strategy". All participants of the conference were involved.
The participants of the workshop visited the following objects of Kharkiv, which characterize its post-industrial development: Fabrika.space, Abandoned elevator near the South Railway Station, Feldman Ecopark, Telesens Ventures Business Center, French Boulevard, Yuzhkabel, KhTZ, Turboatom and Art Factory Mechanics, Colosseum SPA complex and the area of the former “Sickle and Hammer” plant. The objects under the study were divided into three categories: industrial abandoned and non-industrial; powerful industrial sites; former industrial sites that have changed their function.
The main purpose of this workshop was to analyze, based on own experience, the features of post-industrial transformations in Kharkiv, in particular in the manifestations of gentrification and revitalization.
