Equipment of the Department


Educational Laboratory for Socio-Economic and Information Technologies (room 5-66) and two classrooms: 3-62, 3-63 implements educational and research component of the educational process for students and PhD students of the Department of Human Geography and Regional Studies. All classrooms are equipped with computers, modern equipment to support educational process, manuals, stands and illustrative material. The entire auditorium of the department is provided with computers connected to the Internet.

Educational Laboratory for Socio-Economic and Information Technologies provides high-quality training for bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees (PhD). The laboratory has been operating at the Department of Human Geography and Regional Studies since 1995 at the address: Maidan Svobody, 4, building 11, room 5-66. In 2020-2021 academic year it became a structural unit of the Faculty of Geology, Geography, Recreation and Tourism. Head of the laboratory is Pavlo Kobylin, PhD in Geography, who ensures functioning of classrooms 3-62, 3-63 of the Department of Human Geography and Regional Studies.

Educational Laboratory for Socio-Economic and Information Technologies

Educational laboratory (room 5-66) and classrooms 3-63, 3-62 of the department perform the following functions:

  • promoting quality of training bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees (PhD) through the deepening and consolidation of theoretical knowledge through their practical development in the laboratory, formation of practical skills, abilities and key competencies in human geography, regional development, geodemography, information and geoinformation technologies;
  • preparation and conducting of laboratory, practical and group classes at a high scientific, methodological and technical level in accordance with the current work programs of academic disciplines and work plans of student scientific groups;
  • introduction of innovative educational technologies in all types of training sessions, implementation of distance learning elements;
  • providing access to staff and applicants to the scientometric databases ScienceDirect, SCOPUS, SciVal, WEB OF SCIENCE, EBSCO, Springer, Oxford University Press, Cambridge University Press and CulOnline;
  • ensuring the web-site of the department, formation of educational and methodological base to ensure educational process and applicants’ independent work;
  • participation in the organization and implementation of international cooperation with institutions and organizations in the profile of the department;
  • applicants’ involvement in practical activities in educational and research projects.

Educational laboratory (classroom 5-66) and classrooms 3-62, 3-63 of the department hosts laboratory, practical and seminar classes, students’ research and assistant practices, qualifying works defense, meetings of the Discussion Club of students, PhD students, doctoral students and young scientists of the Department of Human Geography and Regional Studies, round tables and sectional meetings of international conferences "Region: Optimal Development Strategies" and "Region: Human-Geographical Aspects", the First International Doctoral Summer School on Urban Geopolitics, the I stage of the All-Ukrainian competition of student research papers in geography.

  • stationary multimedia projectors Epson EB-XA400;
  • portable projectors Epson EB 536Wi, Epson EB-440W;
  • projection screen Projecta Cinema Rf Electrol;
  • 2 magnetic marker boards.

Licensed software is used in the educational process:

  • licensed operating systems Windows 10 Pro Education,
  • ArcGis 10.7.1 licensed program (5 licenses),
  • Microsoft Office 10 Standart (15 licenses).

Education at the department is fully computerized. Students of the department perform all types of work (practical work, practice reports, qualification papers, etc.) using computer technology. The study of the disciplines "Computer Technologies in Human Geography (Workshop)", "Informatics with the basics of geoinformatics", "Information geography and GIS" helps to increase students' computer awareness.

Also, intensive professional training in mastering geographic information systems (GIS) is held at all levels of higher education, which allows to master modern GIS platforms and programs for processing geographic databases and use the knowledge gained during the internship, training, and also future employment.

The scientific and methodological geoinformation component is provided by the training courses "Geographic Information Systems", "Information Technologies in Areal Management", "Working with Databases in Human Geography", "Statistical Methods and Geoinformation Processing", "Three-Dimensional (3D) Modeling of the Urban Environment".

Use of interactive whiteboards in the teaching of academic disciplines allows to visualize the teaching process as much as possible due to the possibility of using cartographic, photo and video material, to approach directly to organization of active learning with the maximum applicants involvement. The color marker function allows to create color drawings and diagrams, to implement interactive teaching methods. A positive aspect is also ability to access the global Internet. Interactive whiteboards are used both in terms of educational activities and during round tables and sectional conference meetings.
